Prime Minister Material?
Signs of endearment

THERE seem to be so few rules left about public displays of affection and protection. Men, for example, no longer open car doors for women or give up their seats on buses and trains, and this is neither here nor there; we all have to stand on our own two feet when the cows and birds come home to roost, and whatever it is that cows do at home.
One particularly irksome ingrained habit, however, lurks in the male psyche and that is the primitive urge to walk on the roadside of a woman. Everywhere in the world, even as we speak, hundreds and thousands of men are doing little sewing machine-like movements around women so that they are gallantly saving them from being run over by the proverbial escaped horse or having mud splashed on their hooped skirts by a runaway landau.
But we still snort at overt physical gestures that we consider untoward. Snogging on the train station platform, for example.
In general, kissing is a bone of contention. Apparently Xanana Gusmao insists female reporters kiss him on the lips after an interview. Yuck; not that I have anything per se against the man; he's a revolution junkie's pin-up. It's the principle of the matter. Cheek-pecking is OK, and that's that.
Recently, the politics of the more anodyne hand-holding became the conjecture du jour after Margaret Whitlam was quoted as marvelling at John and Janette Howard's habit of holding hands in public. "For god's sake, they've been married for over 30 years!" she expostulated.
This casual sort of commentary was a bandwagon just waiting to be climbed upon, and an umbrage tree ready to be climbed. Broadcaster Neil Mitchell bought into the brouhaha, accusing Treasurer Peter Costello of lacing fingers with his wife, Tanya. "I did notice you with your wife the other day. I am afraid, disgracefully, you were holding hands," he thundered amiably. Costello's riposte was that he had been married only 25 years, so perhaps you are supposed to stop after the 26th.
Cherie and Tony Blair were photographed leaving the British Prime Minister's Labour conference farewell function holding hands and Bill and Hillary Clinton were often caught with hands linked, even after his brief excursions into infidelity were made public; after all, as she once memorably and forgivingly said, he's a hard dog to keep on the porch.
Funnily enough, grumpier though I become by the minute, I have nothing against hand-holding; some of my best friends do it, but I am, as a rule of thumb, a lot shorter than most men, which means I have to raise my arm to about the same position as I would were I executing an overhead smash. This means I am not in control of the situation and feel as though I am being led along like a wizened orang-utang by the zookeeper.
At the end of the day, it's just not me.

Fretilin has seen defeat in their eyes, so the are trying to do whatever thing to insult others, to ease their pain. And sadly, Xanana is the target. The more Fretilin insulting Xanana, the more vote goes to him. And I believe more pain will come to Fretilin.
Use your intelligence, not your illusion. To be looked positive, we need to think positive. If we could only spread lies and rumors against others, I believe in our live we can rely on those things.
Fretilin is big party, so whomever supporting it has to show his/her big hearts. Do not use your stupidity to discredit Fretilin. The more you spread your stupidity, the chance to discredit your party is even wider!
Geta Lolo!

Agora ja estou a perceber!

Geta Lolo - a lost battle is not a lost war. The Struggle Continues against the coup plotters who is certain to become the puppets of foreign interests: big businesses and western governments. There are already promisses to bring the "oil money" to Timor which will certainly benefit only foreign "investors". Timorese will have jobs as street sweepers and security guards. We are witnessing the same things take place in other countries where western backed governments are tricked into liberalising their markets where only a small ellite benefits at the expense of the entire population. Soon Timor will have its own millionaires, the Gusmaos, the Hortas, the Araujos, and more. The people will be watching and then they will rise up, and Fretilin will be with them.
A Luta Continua!!!
A Luta Continua!!!
A luta continua,
Arsenio Bano is launching 2 dollars projects where many youths are just sweeping streets,he is storing 175 tons of rice in Nuno Kork's house, Alkatiri's families are the only and main contractor of government's projects. These are the reality every Timorese can see, unless you are from other planet or you are Alkatiri's closer family or you are a blind and direct benefactor of alkatiri's leadership. Contrary to this, show me a single evidence that Gusmao, Ramos and Araujo's family are taking advantages!
Man, I can't believe that you are very fond on this alkatiri. He is useless and can't do more than just insulting others, and benefitting his family, friends and party.
I agree all with Geta Lolo and admiring his briliant opinions!

Mata, I can tell you here that your accusations are all FALSE!!! This is the rumour that goes around in Timor for quite sometime. Once it was said that Alkatiri's children were living in a mansion in Darwin while they completed their school. I have to this "mansion" which looked more like a tiny house being rented by Alkatiri's children and their cousins. Carrascalao has properties in Indonesia and Portugal. Xanana owns a residence in an affluent suburb in Darwin. I know this for a fact because I have been there. Horta has business interests in Kuwait, Australia and Thailand. Mariano Sabino used to run the Poy Cholor in Dili which also doubled as a brothel.
Arsenio Bano and Rui Araujo are some of the most principled people in Timor. These people are happily working with a government said to be corrupt. You are obviously very close to Horta and Xanana. I believe in the integrity of people like Bano and Rui Araujo. I believe that Mari Alkatiri is one of the few people with clean records and have Timor's best interest at heart. Lu Olo fought 24 years in the jungle, a sacrifice that not Horta nor Xanana ever came close to experience. Xanana spent a lot of time in the jungle abusing women, specially from the Lospalos area. Some of them bore his children. Today he doesn't recognise any of them. These women, poor and illiterate, thought they were doing their bit for the struggle by offering themselves to Xanana. Xanana took avantage of them. In the Indonesian occupied areas, women also offered themselves or were offered by their parents to prominent Timorese men linked to the Indonesian government like bupatis. When is Xanana going to recognise the sex slaves he kept for his own private pleaseure? How many men died so that Xanana could escape capture? Who sent Mau Hudo to the militias in West Timor? Why were David Alex and Konis Santana died in such a mysterious circumstance? Ask Xanana. Ask Somoco and he will tell you his version of events surrounding Konis Santana's death. Also ask Xanana's body guards why they attacked Taur Matan Ruak's house in Lahane. Ask Xanana if this is not the fourth attempt at Ruak's life which Xanana's is somehow involved.
Fernando Lasama is a clean man. He has clean record and this I admit. His problem is that he is being used by crooks in PD. When has Lasama said anything smart?
To end with, I just want to leave you with a message here:
RAMOS HORTA LOVES CHILD PORN!!!

How much are you paid to launch these false campaigns (2 dollars!!). Your campaign is typically as Alkatiri's! You have nothing to argue unless following and copying Alkatir's style! Who is Samoco, though?

Dear Anonymous...
I have no problem with any individual in the country, I am not big fan of any either. One thing for sure, to clarify to you is that Fretilin is being using by people to fulfill their individual interest.
Look at Bader, Ahmad, etc Alkatiri, those people were supporting Indonesian while Timorese were fighting and suffering from torture. They were involving in pro Indonesian movement. Later, after the independence, suddenly they have became the most 'struggled' figures in Timor-Leste.
Alkatiri's brother won the project that is over $100.000, while Timorese contractor only afford to win the project that is under $50.000. In fact, to supply uniform for PNTL, FFDTL also won by Alkatiri's brother. Whomever has connection with Alkatiri cs, will certainly get something! This is for fact.
Another thing, I am not sure if Alkatiri is clean from corruption, but one thing I can tell you is that the case involving Conoco Philips and Oceanic Exploration is still open, and now runs under Texas district court, Oceanic claimed that Conoco has bribe Timorese authorities to get advantage from Timor Sea, so don't ever said that Alkatiri is clean, 'yet'.
Regarding cheap propaganda that says Xanana and Horta will use the money from petroleum fund for their interest is absolutely 'childish'. Alkatiri's government failed to execute the money that came from Petroleum fund to improve people's life. The state budget is big, but to execute the budget and to implement the program, Alkatiri's government failed to do so. In fact, there is never a real plan and program! While Xanana has promised better plan and program to improve people's life, and promise to execute the budget properly for the sake of the people. Is that why you think Xanana is going to put some money in his pocket?? I hope you have clear mind, please think positively!
Regarding all the question about why and how some guerrilla fighters died, I think we better not use these to discredit others. I believe nobody knows how those people died. Ask those questions unless you know for sure if Xanana is the one who have killed them, if not, you better not mention it. Otherwise those questions makes you look fool! As far as I know, Koni, Alex, Mauhudu, they all died while Xanana was in prison in Jakarta...regarding the attack at Ruak's house, there was no evidence that Xanana has ordered Mausoco cs on the attack. Surely, Ruak already said that Xanana and F-FDTL are like husband and wife, so I don't see this kind of campaign would destroy relation between Ruak and Xanana!
Always think positive, and make sure to admit your mistake, if there is any. Not just blaming others! It wont let you live in peace...
Best,
Geta Lolo!

The Government has been able to balance the budget over the last four years.
Revenue streams into the Petroleum fund was also significant in 2006.
The Petroleum fund was less than 400 million dollars in 2005 at the end of 2006 it was more than 1 billion.
The Government implemented programs that were in line with World Bank and IMF policies.
The Goverment met the objectives of the 20 year National Development Plan.
The Ministry of Education was one of the worst Ministries when it came to executing the Budget not suprisingly the Minister in charge was Armindo Maia.
The Timorese budget was around 70 million in 2002, around 100 million in 2003 less than 200 million in 2004, rose over 200 million in 2005 and in 2006-07 was around 300 million. 2006/07 would have been a significant year in development and growth, suprise suprise a crisis stalled the implementation of the budget.
Schools in Timor Leste are free, so is health care. Doctors are now located in rural areas, never in the history of Timor Leste has this ever happened.
Cesar Moreira was dropped from the Cabinet because of the misuse of public funds whilst Vice Minister. George Teme is to face court for sexual harrasment. Virgilio Smith killed someone in a car accident, he was condemned by the opposition because of the leniency of penalty received. Rai Los has been recomended by an independent inquiry to face priosecution over weapons possesion and murder. These people are now supporting Ramos Horta and Xanana.
Theres more but now you figure out. People like you Geta Lolo have preconceived opinions already no use elaborating.

Anonymous,
In the last few years before we have the petroleum fund, the state budget was depend on the donor countries through WB and IMF. WB and IMF could not increase the state budget enormously due to lack of human resource in the government to execute the budget. Or we can say there was minimum trust from the donor countries to our government. The plan proposed by our government often has no balance in the budget, the WB and IMF have to work out budget for our plan, and to make sure that the money is used properly, WB and IMF requested our government to follow their policies. Alkatiri wasn't happy with that, and he pushed forward the Timor Sea negotiation, the impact is that we failed to determine our maritime boundary. Soon as we got our own revenue from the petroleum fund, Alkatiri was ready to say bye-bye to donor, this was his objective, to rule on his own without any interference from outside! But still, the ministers were not be able to execute the budget, and the life of people were never improved. Many people still dieing from disease, many kids not going to school, so all the same, or even worst during before 99!
Moriera, Teme, Smith, and Rai-Los is Fretilin's problem! They are Fretilin Mudansa, I guess something is wrong in the party, that is why there are now two fraction! And what was a shame to have 'hand in the air' voting system inside the biggest party in TL??!!
They are supporting Horta and Xanana as individual, it is their rights. But sadly, once they stood against Alkatiri and Lu-Olo, they became traitor! In fact, Fretilin has been used by a group of people to achieve their individual interest!! I feel sorry for Fretilin!!

Answer to Get A Lolo:
IMF and WB policies are ideologically based on a capitalist, market oriented system. Their policies put more emphasis on the private sector initiatives and less of the public sector investments. They believe in a system where government plays less role in the way the economy is managed and controlled and leave the economy in the hand of the capitalists, i.e. businesses. They want a system where businesses are free to exploit the people and the nation's resources. If needs be, governments should subsidise these business with more money so that they can grow more and exploit more. Government policies which are community based like building food warehouses (barns), setting up public transport system, free education, free meals at schools, etc. are not accepted by WB and IMF. As a result government received less money for its own initiatives, money which have been donated by other countries to help Timorese. IMF and WB did not give more money to Fretilin government not because of mistrust but because of ideological difference in the way economic policies are set. If government wanted to pursue its own innitiatives it would have to BORROW, something which Fretilin government refused to do at any cost.
The Timor Sea negotiations went underway and provided Timor with much needed funds thanks to Fretilin and Mari Alkatiri in particular. Everyone in the opposition (Avelino Coelho, Carasscalaos, etc.) opposed to Alkatiri's negotiations saying Timor should first negotiate a border. But in the Timor Gap treaty which covered the JPDA, Timor received 90% from all the revenues. This revenue from JPDA is what will fuel Timor's economy for the next 20 years. The boundary negotiations is irrelevant to the JPDA. It is more relevant to the Sunraise field which promisses a much bigger revenue ecclipsing the JPDA. Successful negotiation brought Timor's rights from 18% to 50% all thanks to Alkatiri/Fretilin. Had Alkatiri/Fretilin played along with the incompetent and people with no vision like those from the opposition, Timor would today be in debt, its economy under the control of WB and IMF (you have to ask why did the 200,000 Timorese choose to die to get independence?) and there is no money from the oil resources. Yet the WB and IMF still produce reports praising Alkatiri/Fretilin's economic management. Timor never went the way of Nauru, many African countries and Latin America. These countries' economy collapsed thanks to weak leaders which succumbed under IMF and WB capitalist agenda.
Today Xanana and Horta use the revenues in the Petroleum Fund to get votes. They promise to go on a spending spree if they are elected. I would really like to see that. In reality, unless they changed the Petroleum Fund law, the funds locked in the bank will be very difficult for anyone to get their hands on. There are checks and ballances that were built along with the law to avoid it from being misused. The Fund itself has been praised world wide as unprecedented and the best there is. It is called Norway Plus because, though based on the Norwegian system, this law surpasses it. You have to have VISION to achieve something like this. I am affraid from what I have been hearing from Horta's mouth, Horta just lacks vision. He may have the best intentions to lead the nation to prosperity, but I don't think he has any idea of how to do it.
As for the Fretilin mudansa, hey hey hey guess what? One of them is CNRT's vice president: Virgilio Smit. And these mudansa people, more appropriately furstrated people, have been sidelined because they were incompetent and corrupt. Once they were sidelined, they began to attack Alkatiri and Fretilin. Had they been allowed to continue to have their seats, they would have supported Alkatiri all the way. Now they are backing Horta. It is their individual choice but like the saying goes: show me who you friends are and I will tell you who you really are. For Horta to allow people like Maubussy, Moreira, Teme (sexual harrasment case pending in Australia), Victor da Costa, Egidio (to corrupt to run energy department and was fired) to be the spokespersons just shows how desperate Horta is and how naive Horta is. But it's Horta's choice.
And I also feel sorry for Xanana and CNRT the party for being so desperate as to make Mau Huno his first vice president and Virgilio Smith as the other vice presidents. Mau Huno can't barely walk even less say anything coherently. Sadly Mau Huno is being led to do all this under pressure from his wife who is a member of mudansa and a business woman. Already we can see how much support this CNRT have.
Good luck.

Good luck.

We'll see either the people will choose the right thing for their country or not by the next election.
It will shows the intellectual of timorense people either they want to be like this in today's government (which is not still not clear to me and even dirtier by the following months) or rely on the better whose have the capacity and will to build the nation.
remember guys you are the future of the nation and someday you will raise your nation. Peace.
